History of AAGPS Head of the River Rowing Regatta

1994 NSW AAGPS Head of the River

It’s Newington (Sydney Morning Herald, 27 Mar 1994)

Newington overcame a light head breeze to reclaim their crown in the GPS Head of the River on the Nepean River at Penrith yesterday.

Almost 15,000 people cheered the Newington crew as they came from behind with 800 metres to go to hold off Sydney Grammar by half a length. The King’s School finished third and Sydney Boys’ High fourth.

The second eights was won by St. Ignatius from King’s and Newington. Shore won the regatta’s overall honours despite going into one race with a borrowed shell and another with a replacement crew member.
