As with other years, the crews contained rowers who were to go onto bigger things. Hardy Cubash, four in the winning Brisbane Grammar crew was to represent Australia at Under 19, Under 23 and Open World Championships. He was a World Champion in 2005 and raced for Cambridge University in The Boat Race on two occasions. David W. Matthews, the stroke of the 1997 Anglican Church Grammar First VIII, represented the Australian Team at the 2002 World Championships in the Coxed Four event. Matthews also competed in the Coxless Four at the 2001 & 2002 Under 23 World Championships and represented Queensland in the 1999 Noel F. Wilkinson Youth VIII Trophy.

1997 Victorious Anglican Church Grammar School Under 15 First IV
H. Clark (cox), R. Dorrstein (bow), O. Lawson (2), A. Lawson (3), P. Davis (stroke). One of the most dominant crews seen in any age group, won the Head of the River by 8 seconds in a record time. In 1988 (their Year 11) all four went Head of the River in a very young 1st VIII to break another 23 year drought for the School.
