1974 QLD GPS Head of the River
The 1974 GPS Head of the River was conducted on April 6th 1974 at Lake Kurwongbah.
Lake Kurwongbah at Petrie was the first still water course developed near Brisbane but it suffered from having no water in drought years because it is so shallow from weed infestations which reduced the number of lanes for racing, from having a maximum of only five lanes which forced the Head of the River into a heats and final format and it lacked reasonable areas for spectators. It was the site of the National Championships and Interstate Regatta in 1975.
