1958 Head of the River

1958 Programme Cover

The ninety-first Head of the River was an all the way win for Melbourne Grammar. They had half a length at the half mile and despite a crab along the way, went onto win comfortably by a length. It was reported in the Launceston Examiner on Monday 21st April that a violent flour-bomb fight took place behind the judges box "almost all afternoon".
