1986 South Australian Schools' Head of the River

The 1986 SA Head of the River featured the following events:
- Boys First Eight
- Boys Second Eight
- Boys & Girls First Four
- Girls Second Four
- Boys & Girls Lightweight Four
- Boys Under 16 Four
- Boys & Girls Under 15 Four
- Boys Under 14 Four
In the Boys Head of the River, St. Peter's College had a dominant regatta epitomised with their back-to-back victory in the First Eight. This was done in a record time of 4 min 31 sec since the course moved to West Lakes in 1977. Other wins for St. Peter's included the Second Eight, Lightweight Four, Under 16 Four (A), Under 15 Four (A) and Under 14 Four (B).
Pembroke School regained the Girls First Four title they won two years prior, whilst also winning the Lightweight Four. Adelaide High School won the remaining Girls events; the Second Four and both Under 15 Fours.
