History of the South Australian Schools Head of the River rowing regatta

1946 South Australian Schools' Head of the River

Saturday, 13 April – Torrens Lake:

The 1946 SA Head of the River featured the following events on the Torrens Lake:

- First Eight

- Clinker Fours (Seconds)

- Open Tub Fours (Slides)

- Under 16 Tub Fours (Slides)

- Under 15 Tub Fours (Slides)

The Advertiser described the day as a "colourful spectacle" of "excellent rowing" in which 8,000 people were in attendance. This was evident with the First Eight race being another nail-biter; just a canvas separating St. Peter's College and Adelaide High School. Prince Alfred College won all other events on the day except the Open Tub Four, which was won by Adelaide High School.

First Eight

The Advertiser wrote of the thrilling First Eight race at the 1946 SA Head of the River:

"The final was the most exciting race of the day, and provided a splendid climax to the programme. Rating at 37 slightly higher than Adelaide High, Saint's splashed somewhat at the start, but both crews passed the first buoy together. Racing under the bridge there was still nothing between them. Saints increased it's rating near the Point, and gained a canvas lead. High School challenged, but Saints maintained its drive to win by that margin."
