Saturday, 17 April – Torrens Lake:
The 1937 edition of the SA Head of the River had a new programme for schoolboy rowing on the Torrens Lake:
- First Eight
- Clinker Fours (Seconds)
- Open Tub Fours (Slides)
- Under 16 Tub Fours (Slides)
- Under 15 Tub Fours (Fixed)
The Advertiser reported that approximately 7,500 people lined the banks of the Torrens. In the First Eight, Prince Alfred College won the Gosse Shield for the first time since 1933 with a 2 length victory over Scotch College in the final. P.A.C. also regained the Blackmore Shield by defeated St. Peter's College in the heat by just 3 feet. P.A.C. also claimed the Under 16 Four (Slides) and Under 15 Four (Fixed). However, St. Peter's won the inaugural Wallman Trophy for Second Crews, and the Open Tub Sides (Thirds).
First Eight
The Advertiser wrote the following of Prince Alfred College's convincing win in the final of the 1937 First Eight:
"The final between Prince's and Scotch showed the superior condition of the Prince's crew. Prince's were leading by a length at Morphett street, with Scotch coming back well; but the effort was too much for them, and Prince's went on to win by two lengths."
