1979 South Australian Schools' Head of the River

Saturday, 7 April – West Lakes:

The 1979 SA Head of the River featured the following events:

- Boys First Eight

- Boys Second Eight

- Boys & Girls Open Four

- Boys Open Lightweight Four

- Boys Under 16 Four

- Boys & Girls Under 15 Four

- Boys Under 14 Four

Incredibly, in the Boys Regatta, Prince Alfred College won the Gosse Shield for the first time since 1942. PAC also won the Open Four. St. Peter's College also had a good regatta winning 6 races. Meanwhile, in the second edition of the Girls Regatta, Scotch College won both events; the Open and Under 15 Four.
