1977 South Australian Schools' Head of the River

The 1977 Head of the River was momentous in moving the regatta to the new West Lakes course. Further, at the conclusion of the regatta, the course was named the A M Ramsey Rowing Course.
The new distances 1500m for First VIIIs, 1000m for Second VIIIs & U16s, 750m for U15s and 500m for U14s.

Pulteney Grammar School broke the run of victories by St Peter's College taking out the Head of the River race by 1¼ lengths. They also won the Second Eight, Lightweight Four and Under 16 Four. St. Peter's College won the Open Four, whilst Prince Alfred College won the Under 15 and 14 Four.
