1896 Rowing Victoria State Championships
After a win in 1895, Mercantile commenced a long period of success which continues through to today. Stephen Morell, a future esteemed President of Rowing Victoria, was a member of the winning eight. The win by Carlyon in the scull against great opposition was highly commendable.
