These Championships were held at the new Olympic course for the first time on 2-4th October 1997.

UTS dominated the regatta and took the Centenary Cup with 126 points. UTS was followed by Sydney on 56, Melbourne on 38, Queensland on 36, Western Australia on 29, Monash on 24, Adelaide on 14, ADFA & UNSW on 13, Canberra, Deakin, UWS & VIC on 12, Newcastle on 8, SA on 4 and ANU & Griffith on 3.
