The men's Championships were conducted on the Murray River at Mildura for the first time on 18th and 19th May 1973. The heats and repechages were held on 18th and finals on 19th May.

Newcastle University dominated the women's events winning all three. Also had their men's lightweight four was their first men's crew to make a final.
