History of Australian University Championships Rowing

1986 Australian University Championships— West Lakes Adelaide SA

These Championships were conducted on the West Lakes course in Adelaide from 14-17 May 1986. The conditions on finals day were cold with rain and cross wind squalls making the course both uncomfotable and unfair. By way of example, the women's coxed four start took half an hour to get it away. However there was some excellent racing and all agreed that winning Tasmanian crew was the best crew in the event.

The domination of Melbourne University was lessened with key races such as the Oxford & Cambridge Cup being won by the University of Tasmania. However the overal points score for the champion university again was won by Melbourne.

The Japanese Australian Universities exchange supported by the Australia-Japan Foundation continued again this year with Waseda and Keio Universities again competing. There were 1000 metre races with the Australian crews and the Japanes Universities race over 2000m.
