1985 Australian University Championships— Lake Wendouree Ballarat VIC
The Championships returned to Lake Wendouree with the finals conducted on 18th May 1985. The conditions were cold but fair with a slight cross head breeze. The women raced over 2000 metres for the first time.
Melbourne again won the Centenary Cup for the Champion University with 136 points, followed by Queensland with 38, then Western Australia and Adelaide on 30 points each, then Monash on 20 points, Sydney 19 points, Deakin 6 and Latrobe with 5 points.
Future Olympian Hamish McGlashan won the men's sculls and future politician Jackie Kelly won the women's sculls.
The inaugural men's fours championship was conducted at this regatta and was won by University of New South Wales in a spirited race with the University of Western Australia.
Monash created a good race for the Oxford & Cambridge Cup leading through the first 1500 metres but the toll of only three weeks together showed with Melbourne University rowing over the top of them to win.
