These Championships were conducted for the first time at the new A M Ramsay Rowing Course at West Lakes SA on 21st and 22nd May 1977. Index to Results
The conditions varied considerable from heats to finals with the finals raced into a strong cross head breeze.
In the men's races, favourite Peter Nevett did not disappoint, future Australian lightweight and selector Dennis Hatcher partnered with Nick Winter to take the pairs, Melbourne outshone the favourites Adelaide in the eights and Adelaide won the Fred Schonell Cup.
In the women's events, Andrea Giles of Monash won the scull, Sydney won the pair with future Australian representatives Pauline Kahl and Maureen Revington, and UWA won the four which included future Olympians Verna Westwood and Susie Gaskin, and future Australian representative Gwenda Bennetts.
