The Australians were in the worst heat and finished fourth. They had a good repechage and semi-final winning both. They were capable of a minor medal as the times indicate and were therefore disappointed with the result.

The Australians finished second in the heat against Great Britain but in a poor time. They then finished third in the semi-final in a slow time thus foreshadowing what was to occur in the final. They raced very consistently throughout the regatta.

A pleasing result for the Free brothers. They won their heat and finshed second behind the gold medallists in the semi-final.

A great result for this crew who also won their heat. The Americans finished third in their heat and second in the repechage, obviously keeping the best for the finals.

The Australian crew were beaten by the Gier brothers fron Switzerland in the heat, won the repechage and then finished third in the semi-final. They were marginally off the pace at this regatta.

This was one of the greatest finishes of all time. The Australians by 0.03 seconds and only 1.5 lengths across the field. This was a great result and great racing by the Australians.
