Appendix 15. Histories of Victorian Rowing
Victorian rowing has been blessed with two early histories of the sport of rowing in Victoria.
The Victorian Rowing Register and Oarsman's Companion 1878 by M S Glynn published by C F Maxwell 1878
The Victorian Oarsman with a Rowing Register 1857-1919 by John Lang, published by A H Massina & Company 1919
Both books are important and accurate histories of the sport in those early days.
Much of the early Victorian rowing history of this website has been sourced from Lang's 1919 book.
For the centenary of the Association in 1976, Field Rickards compiled a history titled Rowing in Victoria, The first 100 years of the Victorian Rowing Association 1876-1976. This has been reproduced on this site with the approval of the author's son, who is also known as Field Rickards.
