Men's and Combined Association
The roles of the these positions changed over time. The role of the Patron has always been one of ceremony and recognition. No formal responsibilities rest on this position.
The role of President was introduced at a general meeting of the Association held on 28th September 1878 and was an elected position until 2013 when the position became the Chair of the Board and so elected by the Board. The term President and Chairman are both used from that date.
The roles of elected Vice-Presidents were phased out in 2009 as part of the governance changes moving to a corporate Board structure. However, the role of Deputy Chairman/Vice-President was retained for the Board to appoint one of its own to that position.
