Tom Laurich had a slow first 1000m and although he finished the race off well, he was unable to catch the medallists. The start was too much of a deficit to remedy.

Men's Quad Scull

The Australians had a slow start and rowed back into the race gradually throughout the race. However the slow start gave too much to the gold medal winning Romanians and so settled for silver.

Men's Pair

The Australians started well but settled too much in the second 500m. They regained much of the deficit in the last 500m but not quite enough to get a medal.

Men's Coxless Four

The Australian crew raced well in a tight finish for 2nd to 4th palcings. They were never able to match the Yugoslav crew. The French crew had a great 3rd 500m but the Australians and fourth placed GBR finished well making it a tight finish.

Men's Eight

The Australian crew raced very well. However the Germans put in a devastating second 500m to take a 3 second lead which was expanded in the third 500m but clawed back by the Australians in the final stages of the race. The battle for silver against the Americans was worthy with the Americans putting a blistering last 500m to come within 7/100 of second of the Australians.

The Australians took the lead in the B final during the second 500m and went onto a confortable win.

The Australian crew led the B final the whole way to a comfortable victory.

The Australians were in the mix for the first 500m but lost close contact in the second 500m. They were out of contention from that point forward.

Women's Scull

Kelly Matthews raced well being third place at every 500m mark. The difference in her race was the last 500m where she came back strongly to nearly grab silver.

Women's Quad Scull

The Australians led through the first 500m but the Poles took charge of the race through the second 500m then the Germans put in an outstanding third 500m to take the lead. The Australian then past the tiring Poles in the last part of the race to finish second.

Women's Pair

The Australians were 3 seconds behind third place after the first 500m and this blew out every 500m thereafter. The first three crews were in one race the others in another.

The Australian started off well in 3rd place at the 500m, then fourth place at the 1000m but still well in the race but drifted to 5th placing by 1500m where they finished.
