1989 Australian Masters Regatta, Nepean River NSW
The Australian Rowing magazine reported on this event as follows:
The Nepean River, Penrith, NSW, has been the venue for many titanic rowing battles and Sunday June 4 was no exception.
It was the venue for the the Australian Veterans Rowing (Championships), having been transferred from Yarramundi Reach on Lake Burley Griffin, ACT. Despite the continuing Sydney rainfall, the regatta went on and many close races ensured.
From sculls through to eight oared rowing, the day proved to be a great success. A number of enthusiastic veterans then set their sights on travelling to Henley for its 100th Anniversary; onto Denmark for the World Masters Games; and others to the FISA Veterans Regatta at Vichy France.
Veteran rowing competitions in the UK, Europe and the US is very strong in both male and female sections. Australian rowers have certainly made their mark at world regattas for veterans over the past ten years with the standard in Australia being very high.
