1914 – Interstate Men’s Eight Championship cox - Second

Robert joined up for WWI at the age of 18 years 10 months in September 1914. He was to see fierce fighting at ANZAC Cove Gallipoli where he was wounded. He is recorded as receiving gun shot wounds on 3rd May 1915 which were obviously not sufficient to stop him as he again received with gun shot wounds to the right eye and left arm on 9th May 1915. He survived and was shipped back to Australia medically unfit in October 1915.
