Henry James Thornton

Albert Park Rowing Club, now Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC)

Thornton served in WWI and survived. He does not appear to have raced successfully with the Club prior to WWI.

Henry enlisted in 1915 at the age of almost 38. He was listed as single and a carrier. Prior to enlistment, he had served 7.5 years in the Australian Light Horse 10th Regiment. He held the rank of Lieutenant.

In the AIF, he was promoted to Lieutenant in 1916. At the same time, he joined the 1st ANZAC Cyclist Battalion in France.
