Thomas Colles wrote an essay on rowing in Victoria in the 1860s which was included in John Lang's book The Victorian Oarsman and which included this insight into Sadler.

A splendid oarsman with a good style. He rowed for the Melbourne Rowing Club, and was eminently successful.
