1933 - Interstate Championships, King's Cup, bow - Third

Ruglin was a larger athlete for his time being six feet two inches tall and weighed 12 stone 4 pounds. He learned his rowing at Albert Park Rowing Club in 1925 where he won a maiden eight double, maiden four, three junior eights and three junior four races. After transferring to Hawthorn Rowing Club, he won a senior eight double in 1932. His success continued in 1933 and he was rewarded with a seat in the 1933 Victorian eight.
