Barbara Ramjan OAM

Barbara was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in the 2024 King's Birthday Honours List.

The Rowing Australia website reported as follows:

Barbara Ramjan OAM has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for her outstanding service to rowing and the law as part of the 2024 King's Birthday Honours List. 

Barbara is a change-maker, advocate who has played a significant role in championing change in the legal profession and sport through her involvement in rowing. 

She has been a dedicated rowing coach for more than a decade, teaching people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Her journey into rowing began when she started taking her son to lessons to strengthen his lungs. From a volunteer parent, she evolved into a passionate coach. 

Barbara's efforts culminated in 2013 when she led the first Australian para-crew to compete overseas, where they beat their American counterparts.  

Nominated as part of Inner West Council’s International Women’s Day Honour Roll in 2019, Barbara has consistently demonstrated her commitment to supporting and uplifting marginalised communities.  

Barbara's accolades are numerous. She is a member of the Children’s Court Advisory Committee, Legal Aid Board, Guardianship Tribunal, and Immigration Review Tribunal.  

Rowing Australia congratulates Barbara Ramjan OAM on this prestigious honour and thanks her for her unwavering commitment to the community and the sport of rowing.
