R Horton Wallman OBE
Adelaide Rowing Club (SA)
Rex Horton Wallman OBE 1884-1963
Horton Wallman was a very long serving President of the South Australian Rowing Association, over 30 years. He held that office until his death in 1963. He was the South Australian delegate to the Australian Amateur Rowing Council for over 20 years and also a former President of it.
Whilst we do not know when he joined Adelaide Rowing Club, he was a member there in 1913. Similarly, we do not know when he was elected President of the South Australian Rowing Association but he was in that position in 1930.
His interests went beyond just those of rowing. In 1960, he was the Australian Olympic Committee representative at the Squaw Valley Winter Olympic Games. One assumes that this role arose from his work with the AOC.
Little is known of his professional life but he held a law degree and so assume that he practised as a lawyer.
