John Minford
South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC) now Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC)
John Minford was a member of the South Melbourne Rowing Club who served in WWI. He has no record of race wins prior to WWI.
Minford enlisted in 1914 and his occupation was noted as a ladies hairdresser.
His service record shows that he was a early member of the Gallipoli campaign as he received a shrapnel would to the arm causing a compound fracture to it. He was repatriated back to Australia in August 1915.
He subsequently re-enlisted and served in Australia rising to the rank of Sergeant.
