Alexander Meens

Alexander John Meens was born in Wembley, England and had migrated to Australia with his brother Frederick around 1912.
A member of the South Melbourne club in season 1913-14, he has no recorded wins.
Alexander was a salesman, aged 33 when he enlisted on 8th July, 1915 as a private in the 31st Battalion.
He arrived in Egypt in February 1916, and was transferred to the 46th Battalion in March. Three months later, he was sent to France for the first Australian offensive in the Western Front.
Alexander was killed in action on 9th August, 1916. He is buried in Pozieres British Cemetery, OvillersLa-Boisselle, France.
