Percival John Godfrey Maher

South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC) now Albert Park South Melbourne Rowing Club (VIC)

Maher was a South Melbourne Rowing Club rower who served in WWI.

Prior to the war, he was a successful rower winning at least two races.

1908 - Bairnsdale Regatta, Men's Maiden Eight, two seat - First

1909 - Melbourne Regatta, men's Junior Eight, three seat - First

Maher enlisted at the age of 28 into the railway unit in December 1916. He was single, a clerk in the Railways Department and lived at 19 St Vincent Place Albert Park. Given his previous militia experience, he gain the rank of Second Lieutenant in the filed in 1917 and later full Lieutenant.

He worked on the light rail which delivered munitions and soldiers to the from and brought back wounded soldiers.
