Edward R Lester

Jeparit Rowing Club (VIC)

Edward Robe Lester was born in Jeparit circa 1898. 

He enlisted for WII at the age of 18 years 1 month on 26th January 1916. His older brother also enlisted and sadly was killed in action in France on 11th April 1917.

By November 1916, he was in France. Edward was wounded in action on 8th June 1917, receiving a gun shot wound to the left elbow. It was serious enough that he did not return to his unit until 25th July 1917.

Thereafter he was able to keep himself free of gun shot wounds until his discharge in 1919. He returned to Australia on 19th August 1919 and was living in Red Cliffs, Victoria in 1932.
