Mercantile Rowing Club (VIC)

Will has come to Mercantile in the same manner as some of the prominent lightweights throughout time, through crews other than the first crew at school. His career is showing promising signs.

2013 – Head of the River fourth crew – First

2014 – Joined Mercantile

2015 – National Championships Under 23 Lightweight Pair – Bronze

2015 – National Championships Under 23 Lightweight Four – 4th

2015 – National Championships Lightweight Eight – Bronze

Will’s first year at Mercantile was paddling in some small boats in club crews. His first serious season was in 2015 where he raced at the National Championships with some success.

Why rowing? Will’s response was thoughtful and interesting. “The training routine, rhythm of the boat, winning races and club life”. He added “everyone around here is great and it is easy to fit in”.

Best race?  “The pair at the 2015 Nationals. We were last off the start, improved to fourth place at 750 metres, and then wound up over the last 1250 metres to the finish to grab third. The wind up at that early part of the race was a good mistake!”
