Geoff Knight

Sydney Rowing Club (NSW)

The following tribute was published on the Rowing NSW website on 3rd October 2017.

Geoff Knight passed away on 28th September at the age of 89.

Geoff was diagnosed with cancer some months ago and has been in Neringah Hospital, Wahroonga, for the past five weeks, receiving palliative care.

Geoff was a successful lightweight rower from the 1960s who won many races including the Champion Lightweight Four of NSW in 1963 and the Champion Lightweight Eight in 1965. He stroked the NSW Penrith Cup four in 1962, gaining second place, and was reserve in the winning Penrith Cup crew of 1963.

Geoff was Captain of Sydney Rowing Club in 1964-66 and later served on the club’s Board. He coached successfully at Sydney High School in the 1970s and in appreciation of his efforts, his crews donated the Geoff Knight Trophy to Sydney Rowing Club awarded to the club’s most outstanding lightweight rower.
