Frank Hick

The following was published on the Rowing Australia website on 30th December 2019.

It is with great sadness that Rowing Australia shares the news of the passing of Frank Hick. Frank passed away in the early hours of 24 December 2019.

A former president of Leichhardt Rowing Club for more than 30 years, Frank represented Queensland at the National Championships in 1962, rowing in a Coxed Four in Ballarat, while he went on to coach numerous crews through the 1970’s and 80’s including a 1979 Queensland women's lightweight four.

He was the coach at Rockhampton Girls Grammar School for more than 30 years and introduced many hundreds of girls to the sport in that time where they won many state and national championships along the way.

His son, Olympian Bruce Hick described him as, ‘a selfless rowing addict that would provide coaching and support to all that found their way into the Leichhardt Rowing Club for more than 50 years and will be remembered fondly by all.’
