Kings Cup
Australian Capital Territories won the kings Cup with Bret Hayman as coxswain. Bret learnt to steer at Yarra before moving up the ladder to become an Olympic cox.”
From the 1989/90 Annual report, as part of the captain’s report:-
“Bret Hayman: What can you say about Bret? Simply that, under Michael Hamilton’s leadership, he is not your typical coxswain coming good; he is far more and all competitors and administrator have been impressed by his helpful manner and club spirit throughout the year. So don’t run away that he’s just another noisy coxswain – that’s only part of the story.
Yarra Yarra Rowing Club Annual report 94/95 (part of the captain’s report):-
Bret Hayman a former of the club, coxed his first Kings Cup crew to a victory and will be coxing the Australian men’s eight this year.

Bret a winner in his first race coxing the winning Yarra Yarra men’s maiden pair at the Yarra Yarra regatta in 1985. In 1990 Brett moved to Mercantile to cox the Victorian Youth eight and later was cox of the VIS development eight before taking up a scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport in 1993.

Brett’s turn-offs are early mornings and long seasons.
Brett’s greatest-ever rowers or scullers are Christopher Wade and Nick Boileau.
