Kay began coxing at MLC under the mentoring of Susie Palfreyman and was the cox of the winning MLC crew that won the APS women’s four in 1984. Kay first represented Victoria in 1982. She became one of the first AIS scholarship holders in 1985 and remained on scholarship to 1991. She was coaxed out of retirement in 1996 and selected to cox the Women’s eight in Atlanta. Kay currently lives in Canberra with her husband, fellow Olympian Bruce Hick her two boys, Daniel and Ben, and her mother Maureen.
