Hannah started her rowing in country Victoria but regarded it as more social than competitive. Hannah got more serious when she went to university in Melbourne where she was studying sports psychology. She enjoyed it so continued. Before that her main sport was netball. During the peak of the career she had to manage the demanding roles of mother, wife and working as a sports nutritionist.
She has continued to put a lot back into the sport being on the both the FISA and Australian Athletes Commission and chairing the Australian Commission.
