David England
Melbourne University Rowing Club (VIC)
Quite apart from his elite rowing record at World Championships and Olympic Games, David has made a superb contribution to the sport at almost every level. He is a lifelong supporter of the sport.
David's rise in the sport to the top was remarkable winning his first open National Championships whilst still at school, then in 1974 winning his first Interstate Championship in his first year out of school.
By 1977 he had won a World Championships bronze medal and by 1980 was an Olympian.
Following the 1984 Kings Cup Regatta, David's career took him overseas for 17 years. During this time he was an active member of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club - Rowing Section (1984-1993) and Walton Rowing Club, England (1993 - 2001).
Upon return to Australia he immersed himself actively at MUBC and assisted the women's, club and men's lightweight squads as a coach. At the same time he coached schoolgirls at Presbyterian Ladies College and schoolboys at Xavier College.
If that was insufficient, he was Finance Director of Rowing Australia and then served as a board member.
As you would expect, he is an intelligent, energetic, wise and knowledgeable member of the sport, who has been willing to use his skills for the benefit of the sport.
