Charles (Joe) Coe

Sandy Bay Rowing Club (TAS) then Yarra Yarra Rowing Club (VIC)

Father to Des, Dick, grandfather to Andrew, David, Malcolm, and Margaret father in law to Margaret Coe (senior).

Joined 1930/31 season as an active member, passed away during the 1972/73 season.

Joe had come from Tasmania, where he had been captain of the Sandy Bay Rowing Club.

Captain 1936/37 - 1944/45

Life member 1955/56 till his passing

Vice President 1945/46 - 1955/56

From the 1972/73 Yarra Yarra Rowing Club annual report:-

Charles (Joe) Coe, our staunch clubman passed away early this year, Joe with his drive and enthusiasm virtually saved Yarra from extinctor in the 1945-45 war. When with a mere handful of members he kept our club open during those bad years.

His memory will be kept alive by the constant association of his family with Yarra. Such as his sons Des and Dick, together with his grandsons Andy and David.

Andrew Guerin developed and extended these histories to the current format in 2004 for publication in 2004 and then expanded the site.
