William (Bill) A Buckley

Yarra Yarra Rowing Club (VIC)

Bill joined in the 1926/27 season.

He soon served as a committee member in 1929/30  and then later from 1962 to 1967. 

HIs only recorded regatta win Maiden Four at Footscray regatta 26/11/1926. 

However, he won several club races, and these trophies are on display in the club's trophy cabinet.

For his services to the club, he was elected an honorary life member in 1971.

Bill owned Packard travel goods, which made suit cases and other accessories for travellers. He also was a drummer and band leader including playing at the former Carlton theatre in the last days of silent movies.

He passed away in 1985/86 and the annual report recorded at the end of that season:

We extend our sincere condolences to Bianca on the passing of Bill Buckley in October. We miss him at our Sunday morning meetings and would assure her that his most generous bequest is being used for the benefit of the club, in accordance with his wishes.
