Arthur Begelhole

Yarra Yarra Rowing Club (VIC)

Arthur was a rower, administrator and clearly a great clubman of Yarra Yarra Rowing Club.

Whilst not a champion oarsman, he enjoyed his rowing over a long period of time and is recorded as a winner in:

Arthur was also part of a Christmas day eight composed of older members.

In 1945/46, he introduced the club race the “Arthur Begelhole pairs”.

On the club administration side he served as:

In recognition of his service to the club, he was elected a Life member in the 1959/60 season.

His son Peter also became a member of Yarra Yarra Rowing Club and also enjoyed his rowing.

Of interest is that in the 1961/62 season, Arthur donated a second hand single scull to the club to be raffled. This scull originally owned by Cecil Pearce, noted Australian sculler.

Arthur passed away in the 1970/71 season.

From the 1970/71 annual report:-

“Arthur (Silver) died after a long illness and Yarra Yarra is much poorer for his passing. Arthur always set a fine example to younger members to his continued sporting the club colours over many years, whether sculling or in crews, and his unpublicised efforts for the club.”
