The Australian Oarsman May 1926

The following magazine was produced by J W Shaw of Melbourne in May 1926. It was intended to be a national monthly publication but given that the publisher of this website had not heard of it before, it is assumed that it was sadly short lived. Given that this was the first or an early edition, most of the articles were Victorian based.

The magazine was brought to our attention by Sally Reynolds who found it in the collection of her father-in-law Cecil Homersham Rich. We are most grateful for her assistance. It is now in the Australian Rowing History collection.

The idea for this history originated from the Olympic Rowing and World Senior Rowing Championship histories written by Andrew Guerin and Margot Foster in 1991, 1992 & 1993 for the Australian team handbooks. Andrew Guerin developed and extended these histories to the current format in 2004 for publication in 2004 and then expanded the site.

Steve Roll has been an invaluable contributor to the website in locating errors and finding Christian names of rowers. His superb work is acknowledged.
