Appendix 7 - Mercantile's Rowing Victoria Premierships
Victorian Rowing Association Premierships commenced in 1899 with a Club Premiership for the Club which was most successful in inter-Club regattas. A Men's Junior Premiership was introduced in 1907, a Men's Lightweight Premiership in 1949 and a Men's Country Premiership in 1955.
A Men's Champion Club award was introduced in 1979. A Winter Premiership introduced in 1980 and Ladies' State, Senior, Junior, Lightweight and Country introduced in 1982.
In 1997, the Victorian Rowing Association changed the premierships to Champion Club, Men's Senior and Junior, Women's Senior and Junior and Men's and Women's winter premierships. It also introduced annual awards for:
- Club person of the year
- Club coach of the year
- Club rower of the year
- Special service award
- Outstanding rower/crew of the year
OTHER NOTES:
- Premierships suspended from 1916 to 1918 and 1941 to 1945 (inclusive).
- Senior Premiership not awarded for 1918-19 season.
- Only one Premiership awarded 1945-46 to Club securing most points in all events.
- No senior premiership was awraded in 1956.
- Junior Premiership divided into two divisions from 1971-72 and Country Premiership abandoned.
