John McKenna and Jacinta Nolen

The blazer shown in the photograph above with its intricate hand sewn pocket was given to long time Club member John McKenna by Bill Ewing at that 50th Aniversary Dinner as an item of Club history. John has since passed the Blazer on to Jacinta, in recognition her coxing and rowing talents, she will now be looking for a current promising cox or rower to become the next holder.

Neville Howell handed over the Presidential duties to Vic Burnett in 1982, after a long and distinguished term in that office. Neville's work was increasingly taking him away from Bendigo. Vic proved to be a popular, enthusiastic and capable leader.

The Club purchased a racing scull and lain Fotheringham purchased our first coaching boat, whilst Jim Peoples joined to lend a hand and provide much needed rowing expertise; gained from many years of rowing with top Dimboola crews on the Wimmera River. He taught Ray Ingwersen how to steer a scull and started work on one of our best ladies crews yet. Sandra Curnow and Christine McKendry in pairs were later joined by Janice Barnes, Megan Brooks, Alison Tuddenham and later Vickie Nolen. They won many fine races.

Country and Western Nights with Les Robertson were immensely popular. They were a raging financial success and really set the Club up well. Our financial enticements were generously supported by Peter Hynes, Tim Nihill, Ivan Long, Arhtur and Lorraine Moyle, Denis Bawden Denis Wingrave (Fossey) and Barry Eddy.

In 1984 we embarked on some serious boat buying and five bottles of champagne were needed for our $20,000 plus, acquisitions.
