1956 SATIS Head of the River

Saturday, April 14 - Tamar River 

First Four:

There were 6 entrants in the 1956 race, who raced over 1⅛ miles on the Tamar River:

-    The Friends’ School

-    Hutchins School

-    Launceston Church Grammar School

-    Scotch College

-    St. Patrick’s College, and

-    St. Virgil’s College

Launceston Church Grammar were successful in winning the Golden Fleece Cup for First Fours three years in-a-row.

Second Four:

Hutchins School won the Second Four by 2 lengths.

Fifth Four:

1956 was the first year Fifth Four was raced at the Tasmanian Head of the River. Launceston Church Grammar took out the inaugural event over Hutchins School 1 in second.
