We have in Geelong two well equipped rowing clubs who have distinguished themselves in competition, and who have barely enough members to keep them going. May 1 ask you all to reflect on the 100 years of the Barwon Rowing Club and give thanks to our original founders. The thought of this band of men who were, no doubt, leaders of an energetic group of people doing what they chose as a sport, which has been carried on for 100 years and is still administered and enthusiastically partici¬pated in today, is as then most inspiring

Death of vice-president and immediate past president, W Henry
We must record with deep regret the recent retirement of Mrs Grose. Mrs Grose served on the social committee for about 40 years of which the last eight years she has been president. It would be interesting to know just how many dollars she has raised by her personal service over the years. We extend to her and place on record the club's deepest and sincerest thanks for her efforts particularly during the years when the club was in the doldrums

The wheel of success is not always smooth and we had our flat spots this season. We again record our appreciation of "Leander" for his regular and interesting journalistic efforts in the cause of rowing

Death of member and former vice-president John Barber, known as "Leander". Our active members consist mainly of young, relatively inexperienced members and their efforts should stand us in good stead for the future

Regattas: Club's most successful year. Won Vic Jr 1st Div P'ship, Country P'ship and Inaugural Champion Club of Victoria
Twenty five crews boated, 53 oarsmen occupied 890 seats, boated 41 winners, 70 wins, 27 regattas. It is extrememly doubtful that in the 100 years plus of rowing in Victoria any club can ever boast of equalling the achieve¬ments of this club last year

It is obvious to any visitor that Barwon is a happy club. The fact that our member's ages range between 10 and 80 years makes no difference to the harmonious atmosphere that exists

Membership: 50 rowers
Fleet: Purchased new racing four

The perennial question of recruiting must be seen to be vital in the building of any sort of future for the club, and the responsibility for fostering of such recruits lies with everyone in the club

SEASON 1981-1982

President: J Wilks, Secretary: G Hunter

In a year of some incredible achievements for Barwon, probably the most historic was the decision to admit females as full members of the club for the first time in its 112 year history

Regattas: Aust Champ LW 4, won 5 c'ship races
Have you noticed the tremendous age gap of the people that are coaching at the moment? It starts in the 20s and then nothing until the late 50s. I am sure that young people who are rowing tend more to discourage their parents away from the club rather than encouraging them to become interested parties in what they are doing

SEASON 1984-1985

President: G Hunter, Secretary: J Hart
Treasurer: C Cox, Captain: Ro Tomczak
Vice-Presidents: K Cook, L Gladman, P McHugh, J Wilks, P Farrow, A Hart, C Reynolds

Regattas: Member Aust LW Double Sculls, member Penrith Cup, member and coach Aust LW 4 Commonwealth Games
It is my belief that some new members and their families may hold the key to putting Barwon back on the winning list. This "new blood" will soon become the backbone of the club. After all, we were all once "new blood" and some families have been involved with the club for more than fifty years

SEASON 1986-1987

President: K Threlfall, Secretary: J Brady
Treasurer: C Cox, Captain: R Kvant

The future of the Barwon Rowing Club lies with its young people who should be given every assistance and opportunity to develop their rowing skills. At prsent this task is being left to only a few people
