The 1998 regatta was conducted at Ioannina in Greece. and were very successful for the Australians.

Women's Four—Gold Medallists

Women's Single Scull

Final: 1st ITA 7:42.32, 2nd NOR 7:45.37, 3rd NED 7:45.79, 4th AUS 7:46.95, 5th ESP 7:58.40, 6th DEN 8:04.69

Jaye Reynolds raced consistently being in fourth place throughout the race. Whilst closing the margin on the third placed Dutch sculler, Jaye was unable to break through to a medal placing.

Women's Four

Final: 1st AUS 6:40.46, 2nd USA 6:46.89, 3rd GBR 6:49.24, 4th POL 6:50.33, 5th GER, 6th CAN 6:58.48

The Australians had a blistering fast first half of the race being 2.5 seconds in front at the 500m and 4.4 seconds at the 1000m. They extended the lead to 4.4 seconds at the 1500m and went on to win by 6.4 seconds.

Women's Lightweight Double Scull

Final: 1st AUS 7:14.08, 2nd ITA 7:16.58, 3rd SUI 7:20.35, 4th CAN 7:25.32, 5th SWE 7:26.64, 6th ESP 7:27.47

The Australian double raced the first 1000m like their counterparts in the four taking a 4.3 second lead at the half way mark. The Italians fought back in the second half of the race but were unable to catch the Australians.

Men's Single Scull

Final: 1st SLO 6:54.59, 2nd FRA 6:57.92, 3rd CRO 6:59.18, 4th AUS 7:00.02, 5th GER 7:12.59, 6th EST 7:18.26

Matthew was in fourth place after the first 500m and came home strongly to be only 0.84 seconds off bronze.

Men's Quad Scull

Final: 1st AUS 6:08.85, 2nd GER 6:12.10, 3rd AUT 6:14.48, 4th DEN 6:17.06, 5th FRA 6:21.48, 6th ITA

The Australians were placed third through the first half of the race and had a good third 500 metre push to take the lead narrowly by the 1500m. They then pushed away to win comfortably in the end.

Men's Eight

Final: 1st AUS 5:53.97, 2nd USA 5:54.60, 3rd GER 6:03.86, 4th FRA 6:05.48, 5th GBR 6:06.70, 6th POL 6:10.92

The Australians led narrowly all the way in this tight encounter to take the gold medal.

Men's Lightweight Four

Final: 1st FRA 6:05.58, 2nd GRE 6:11.95, 3rd GER 6:12.20, 4th YUG 6:14.98, 5th AUS 6:16.76, 6th USA 6:17.99

The Australians were in third position through the half way mark but the Greeks had a strong third 500m pushing them to fourth placing and the Yugoslavs did the same in the last 500m leaving them in fifth place.
