The conditions for this event were again extremely rough with a strong tail breeze with the last 3/4 mile almost unrowable. The course record was broken. SA sank after the finish line and the other crews took on a lot of water during the last part of the race. The attached pictures taken over this rough last section of the race are telling. Victoria started well and took a length off the other crews led by Queensland in the first half mile. The lead was extended to two lengths over Queensland by the half way mark. NSW were able to row through Queensland into second place but were never able to shake themselves clear of them.

Men's Interstate Sculling Championship—The President's Cup

Time: 16.12.0
Margins: 5 & 12 lengths

1st WA - Gerry Hubbard
2nd QLD - Barry Green
3rd NSW - Peter M Evatt
4th TAS - Barry J Foster

The sculling race started in smooth water and then deteriorated into very difficult conditions. The four scullers raced well in the calm conditions with less than 2 lengths separating the scullers. However in the rough conditions, the two lighter scullers managed the tail conditions better with Hubbard taking a good lead at the finish. The conditions favoured these scullers over the longer stroking heavier scullers. The result was described as a "boil over".
